A Cretan family, an open door

This is not a hotel. It's our house — and while you're here, it's yours.

In the village of Vagionia, in the heart of the Messara plain, Catia and Dimitris keep an old Cretan tradition alive: filoxenia — the love of the guest. Fresh fruit from the garden to welcome you. A tour of the vegetable beds and the animals. A seat at the family table.

We grow our own organic vegetables, press our own olive oil, make our own cheese, and collect the morning's eggs from a very happy flock. Our little farm shop sells the harvest — oil, honey, capers, olives, mountain herbs. Volunteers come for the olive harvest and stay for the community.

Rooms & rates

Six honest rooms, from €20 a night.

Every stay includes the same five-star family welcome: a welcome of fresh fruit from the garden, local advice from people who actually live here, and a seat at the family table whenever you want it.

Why our website price is the best price: platforms like Booking and Airbnb add commissions of up to 15–20% on top. Book directly by email, phone or WhatsApp and that money stays out of the price — you pay less, and more stays with the family and the farm.

The table

Generosity, served daily.

The heart of Villa Eleftheria is the table. Dimitris cooks like a chef — fish over the wood fire, dolmades rolled by hand, fava with our own olive oil, salads straight from the garden. Almost everything comes from a few metres away: the vegetable beds, the olive grove, the animals.

Breakfast is famously abundant. Dinner at the family table often turns into an evening with cousins, neighbours and travellers from three countries. This is the Crete you came looking for.

Vegetarian, plant-based and pescatarian guests are warmly catered for — the garden does most of the work.

Volunteering

Come for the olive harvest. Stay for the community.

Every year, volunteers from around the world join us for the olive harvest and farm life — working side by side with the family, sharing every meal, and discovering the real south of Crete on days off.

It's an exchange in the truest sense: your hands and your company, our table, our home and our island.
